After telling Brownie’s remarkable story in her book\, Nelson led the fundraising effort to create a statue in his honor and have it placed on the King campus. DESCRIPTION:SORRY – SOLD OUT \nJoin Vietnam Huey pilot\, Richard Berry\, as he discusses his experiences during the Vietnam War. Mr. Berry will use the numerous photos he took during his tour and data from his flight records to describe 1st Cavalry Division airmobile operations and air assault tactics employed during the Vietnam War. This presentation will not only focus on Mr. Berry’s experiences but will also recognize the service of the many crew chiefs\, door gunners\, and pilots who operated Army helicopters during the war. \nEach MESS NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM features a guest speaker\, topic\, dinner\, drinks\, and time to socialize before and after the talk. DESCRIPTION:The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs\, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Veterans Museum and the Wisconsin Historical Society\, is hosting a Two Lights for Tomorrow ceremony at the Wisconsin State Capitol on Monday\, April 14 at noon. This event is the kickoff of a week long commemoration recognized in the 2025 Assembly Joint Resolution 17. \nThis event honors the 250th anniversary of events that sparked the War for Independence outside Boston in April of 1775\, which are immortalized in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s famous poem\, “Paul Revere’s Ride\,” with the famous line about “One if by land\, two if by sea.”

CSM (Retired) Curt Patrouille\, CSM (Retired) Brian Bieniek\, and LTC Matthew McDonald will provide an overview of A Troop’s very unique mission throughout Iraq in 2009-2010. DESCRIPTION:Save the date! Join UW Veteran Services and us for our annual ‘On\, Wisconsin! Tailgate’ on Saturday\, November 16\, when the @UW Badgers host the Oregon Ducks at Camp Randall Stadium. The Tailgate will be located at Camp Randall Memorial Park\, east of Camp Randall\, across the street from the Kwik Trip. Look for a big red and white striped tent. The starting time is TBA as the game time kick-off has yet to be announced.\nTailgate begins at 4pm. Kick off is at 6:30pm The Tailgate is open to any veteran and their accompanying family members. \nStaff from the Wisconsin Veterans Museum will be discussing Camp Randall’s history and share stories of a few of the 70\,000 Wisconsin soldiers that trained there during the Civil War. \nVeterans can also sign up at the Tailgate for any un-claimed free tickets to the Badger football game during this time at the check-in table. First come\, first served. \nFood and beverages will be available for purchase courtesy of  VFW Post 1318. See you at the game and On\, Wisconsin!

It is a story of inspiration\, dedication\, valor and love\, following the life of one soldier and those with whom he served. Wisconsin native\, Captain Scott Alwin\, served as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War with the 68th Assault Helicopter Company.\nHe earned a record 136 Air Medals\, but more important\, he earned the respect of the men he served with and the love of a Vietnamese woman who became his wife.\nScott Alwin was from Ft. Atkinson\, attended UW-Madison for his undergrad degree\, and is buried in Marathon County (Hamburg). \nAdmission is free. Seating is limited to 60. \nPlease RSVP here.

DESCRIPTION:Attention Pet Parents and Families! \nThe Wisconsin Veterans Museum\, in partnership with Downtown Madison\, and with support of the Wisconsin Historical Society Press\, invites families and pet parents to Lisa Link Peace Park (452 State Street) for a Puppy Parade and author event. \nActivities will commence at Lisa Link Peace Park at 6pm with a short parade down the State Street pedestrian mall. Dogs and children of all ages are welcome\, and pups are encouraged to dress to the (K-)9s. \nFollowing the parade\, pups and families will be invited to hear author Kelly Nelson read from her new children’s book\, Brownie the War Dog: Veteran’s Best Friend\, published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press. Books will be available for purchase during an author signing. Cash or check only. We cannot take cards or electronic payments. \nBrownie was a family dog who was called to serve in WWII. After his service\, he returned to his family in King\, WI where he became a beloved mascot and friend to veterans at the veterans’ home in King. Brownie was buried with military honors in the Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery there. Read more about Brownie here. \nThis event is free.
