CEMETERY TOURS BACK IN-PERSON, WILL FOCUS ON WOMEN’S STORIES

Talking Spirits Cemetery Tours set for October 9, 10

August 26, 2021 —The Wisconsin Veterans Museum has announced that the 23rd annual “Talking Spirits Cemetery Tour” will again be conducted in-person this fall, with candlelight tours on October 9 and daytime tours on October 10. This year’s focus will specifically be on women’s stories, with the theme “Wisconsin Women at War.”

Held at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Madison, this annual program brings to life the legacies of lesser-known figures in Wisconsin’s history. This year, guests will learn about four Wisconsin women in particular, Eulalie C. Beffel, Jesse Smith, Elizabeth Park and Elizabeth Roach, all of whom will be portrayed in vignettes by actresses retelling their stories.

"We're excited to be back in-person at Forest Hill Cemetery this year. The stories we are showcasing demonstrate the many ways - some obvious, some not - that people can support a national effort toward a common goal."

These women were activists and teachers, a musician and a Gold Star mother. Although they were not allowed to fight on the front lines, each made significant contributions to the war effort. In addition to performances by the costumed re-enactors, guides will entertain guests with little-known stories of the people who rest in the historic cemetery and their contributions to the great state of Wisconsin.
