MADISON, Wis. (April 12, 2015)– The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs today announced that it will host a free screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary “Last Days in Vietnam” on Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Union South Marquis Theater.
The documentary reveals the story of the chaotic final days of the Vietnam War, which officially ended on April 30, 1975. As the U.S. readied itself to withdraw, many Americans on the ground were concerned that their South Vietnamese allies would face imprisonment or death upon their departure. With the clock ticking, the heroic American soldiers took matters into their own hands, participating in unsanctioned, makeshift operations to save as many South Vietnamese as possible.
Through firsthand interviews and rare footage being seen in some cases for the first time, “Last Days in Vietnam” captures the heartache and heroism of the Vietnam War’s final moments.
The free event is open to the public and reservations are not required. The screening is sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Wisconsin Public Television. “Last Days in Vietnam” will also premiere on Wisconsin Public Television on April 28 at 8 p.m.
