WISCONSIN VETERANS MUSEUM UNVEILS A NEW EXHIBIT
THE ART OF PERSUASION MOBILIZING THE MASSES IN WWI ON MAY 27

MADISON, Wis. (May 12, 2016) – On Friday, May 27, Wisconsin Veterans Museum visitors will have the opportunity to look more than 100 years in the past and examine the use of war propaganda through a new exhibit, The ART OF PERSUASION Mobilizing The Masses In World War I.

The exhibit features 34 iconic posters commissioned by the Committee on Public Information that were distributed all across Wisconsin and the United States to encourage support for the war effort. Among the posters featured are some calling for enlistments, while others ask civilians to purchase war bonds, and some depict the enemy forces of the Central Powers.

“This exhibit portrays a very significant time in U.S. history,” said Michael Telzrow, Wisconsin Veterans Museum Director. “Visitors will get to see how the Federal government employed themes of duty, patriotism and fear to turn public opinion away from isolationism, and ultimately mobilize the country to help turn the tide in favor of the Allied forces.”

THE ART OF PERSUASION will be on exhibit until March 2017. April 6, 2017 will mark the 100 year anniversary when the U.S. entered World War I.
