Organization The 39th Infantry Regiment was organized for the "Hundred Days' Service" at Camp Washburn in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Active Duty They left the state on June 13, 1864, and proceeded directly to Memphis, Tennessee. There, the regiment was assigned to drill, guard, and patrol duty, and engaged in occasional skirmishes.
