In the above video clip, United States Navy radioman Robert Feller relates the story of a torpedo coming right at his ship and then going underneath his ship the USS Oglala and striking the USS Helena next to them.

Robert F. Feller was born in Verona, Wisconsin in 1921. He enlisted in the Navy in November 1940 and had basic training and attended radio school at Great Lakes Naval Training Station outside Chicago. Sent to Honolulu, Hawaii, he was a messenger the morning of the attack on Pearl Harbor to the skipper's office on the top deck of his ship, the minesweeper USS Oglala. Feller was discharged in 1946, but joined the active reserves during the Korean War, remaining stateside. He used the GI Bill to obtain vocational education and became an electrician in Wisconsin. He passed away in Verona in 2015.
