In the above video clip, William Scheer, United States Army Air Force radio repairman planned to meet a friend of his from Chicago on the USS Arizona that morning. He remembers crawling under the group headquarters building for protection from Japanese air attack.

William Scheer was born on July 15, 1922, in Madison, Wisconsin. He served as a radio repairman in the Army Air Corps with the 15th and 47th Fighter Squadrons during World War II. He was stationed at Wheeler Field during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. After the war Scheer worked at Borden’s Dairy and Wisconsin Telephone, retiring in 1982. He died on April 4, 2011, in DeForest, Wisconsin, and is buried at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona, Wisconsin.
