Organization  The Seventeenth Wisconsin Infantry Regiment (17th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment) organized at Camp Randall, Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered into U.S. service on March 15, 1862.  The regiment left the state on March 23, directly heading to St. Louis.
