CEMETERY TOURS GO 360 THIS YEAR Because we want to keep everyone safe and healthy during the pandemic, we will not be presenting in-person cemetery tours this year. While we agree that this change is a disappointment, the museum staff will present Talking Spirits Cemetery Tours: Myths and Realities through a 360-degree virtual tour of Forest Hill Cemetery on Madison’s near west side. Click here to take the tour. All you need to view the tour is internet access, and a computer, tablet, or smart phone; no special applications are required. You can view the tour at any time and as many times as you like. Access is free.

What we know today as "the Vietnam War" was actually part of a broader series of conflicts over three decades that emerged in French Indochina after World War II. Increasing United States involvement over the years culminated in a major war from 1965 to 1973 - the effects of which are still felt today. Join Museum Director Chris Kolakowski and Curator of History Kevin Hampton as they explore this story, from the surrender of Japan to the Fall of Saigon. REGISTER

It looks like we will all be staying home this year for the Holiday Season so what better way to share festive tidings of cheer than to create some homemade greetings? Join us for a special Holiday Drink & Draw where we will sip eggnog and make things merry and bright. At the end of the night we will offer recommendations for sending some cheer to our men and women serving in our military. No experience is necessary. Gather your supplies, pour yourself a beverage, and bring your artistic energy as we spend the evening together stretching our creative muscles. This event is free of charge and open to anyone who registers. This event is presented by the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Foundation. This event is suitable for all ages. While it’s true that “there’s no place like home for the holidays,” those on military deployments don’t always get to experience that enjoyment for the holiday season. For some, the holidays are like any other day on deployment, while others are able to find some sense of normalcy amidst whatever traditions they can keep while away from home. Join the Wisconsin Veterans Museum staff as they share their favorite stories from the collection about the holidays during deployment. This event is sponsored by the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Foundation and is suitable for all ages.

Join us for our virtual trivia night and test your historical knowledge. Sign up as individuals or as a team and go head to head with other players from around the state. This free event will be based on 4 rounds of trivia, with each round focusing on topics associated with Wisconsin military history, to include: history, pop culture, names and places, events, and fun facts! For this virtual trivia night, we will be using the Kahoot! app. This app will allow for the multiple choice questions we will use during each round. Simply log onto Kahoot.it the night of the event (either through your mobile device or on a separate browser tab) and we will provide the access code…nothing to download and easy to use. Lots of fun will be had by all and prizes are given to the top 3 players/teams. REGISTER HERE

Grab some popcorn and a seat in your favorite chair. This month we’re discussing the 2005 film, Joyeux Noel. This holiday favorite recounts the extraordinary events of Christmas Day, 1914, when the guns fell silent and two armies met in no-man's land to share gifts, sing songs, and take time to recognize brotherhood during Christmas. Your mission is to watch the movie, which is available from most libraries or on streaming services, while thinking about the discussion questions we will provide you. On December 18th, at 7:00 pm we’ll all meet via Zoom for a discussion led by museum staff. We will cover themes such as conflict, politics, pop culture, the military, and moviemaking. After you register, we will email you the discussion questions and instructions to join virtual discussion via Zoom. This event is free and open to the public and is presented by the Wisconsin Veterans Museum Foundation. Please Note: This event may not be suitable for younger audiences as this film contains some graphic war violence, brief nudity, and is of a mature subject matter. REGISTER HERE
